I thought, "pictures and pixels". You can't have the picture without the pixels, but the pixel is not the picture. If I am a pixel, at best I can see my neighbours, and perhaps sense the expanding landscape of colours that surround me. But that's sufficient, because then I know my contribution to the grander story.
The pixel that looks at itself, and says "I am the picture" ... that's a sorry and sad misguided little pixel. Consumed with its own tiny little universe, it imagines itself to be a sprawling canvas of detail and depth. Yet all the time it is merely a speck on the never ending painting of the universe - its absence would be noted, its presence contributes, in isolation its nothing.
God save the sorry and sad little pixel ... there are so many of them!
